Cruise Day 3 Cabo San Lucas

Our first day in port, Cabo San Lucas, was a fun filled day. Once we landed, we found a local who could take us to the popular Lover's Beach and rent us snorkeling gear for a decent price. He loaded us in his little boat and out we went into the harbor. I have never really been afraid of boating until then. They would come within feet of other boats constantly! I found I had to restrain myself from shouting "look out!" at the driver repeatedly ha ha ha. Then, when we landed on the beach, they didn't have a dock and the waves were about 5 feet high when they broke on the beach. All they had were a couple of guys who would first take our stuff to keep it dry, place it on the beach and then come back for us. If we had been smart, we would have dressed in our swimming suits before the beach...... not only did we get soaked getting out of the boat, we then had to change in a not so private area that smelled like an outhouse..... yea. After that though, it was great. We geared up and headed out into the bay to go snorkeling and the fish were amazing. Vibrant colors and big schools of fish. The coolest was when you would reach out to touch them, only the fish in danger of being touched would move, but they could feel you coming well before you even got close. The scary part was that their boating laws are pretty lax. I had my head underwater looking at fish when I got some water in my googles so I brought my head out just in time to see I was a foot away from a boat that had come in to let it's passengers see the fish through their glass bottoms. Apparently they had been yelling at me, but I couldn't hear them. I backed off and kept a wary eye from there on out. At least 50 boats came in to where we were snorkeling as if it wasn't a danger to anyone at all! After a while, we came upon this rock formation that stuck straight out of the water about 20 feet and people were jumping off of it..... so we decided to as well. It was so cool! I hadn't ever jumped off of anything that high before but it is a rush! After a few rounds we decided to head back to Lover's beach and see what was on the other side of it. This is where the pictures pick up (we don't have a water proof camera, so I couldn't get pictures of us jumping or snorkeling).

Our first trip off the ship! Doesn't Thomas look excited? ha ha ha, he really was.

This is the other side of Lover's Beach. We called it divorce beach, but I am not sure what it's official name was. The water is way colder on this side and the waves crash 10 times harder. Sometimes the water would reach halfway up the rock in this picture.... it was insane.

Our first glimpse of the waves crashing. They don't look very big and strong, but they were!

We are assessing the conditions of the beach.........still unsure.

The boys finally decided to go play, but I was content to hang back and take the pictures. This is the wave cresting.......and.........

This is it breaking. Very torrent and awe inspiring in person. :)

The water is only knee deep but it could take you off your feet if you weren't careful, which is what happened to Thomas..... he is on the right.......and in the next picture.....

He is gone! The guy on the right is some random dude and Thomas is in the middle under water getting tossed around.......

There he is! Phew! Plus if you didn't stand up quick enough after that, it would take you back out with it.

In fact, see the waves crashing behind us? 5 ladies got caught in one wave and got sucked out to where those waves were breaking and couldn't get out. I thought for sure I was about to watch 5 people disappear and drown. Thomas ran over with a couple of other guys to help, but they couldn't go out very far or they would get caught too. They had to wait until a wave brought the girls back in a little and then grab them and tried to pull them back. The girls had to endure about 4 pounding waves before they finally started getting their footing again. The one girl that Thomas grabbed couldn't even move and he had to drag her back up the beach. It was pretty intense, but it all ended well. Thank heavens!

All four of us before we left Divorce beach :)

After the beach we headed across the bay to each lunch and shop and walk around the city. The food was pretty good and we never got sick! woo hoo! That is our ship in the background and behind it was where Lover's/Divorce beach was.

As the ship was leaving port, I ran down to a deck to take pictures of where we had been earlier that day. This is where we snorkeled and in the middle of the picture, in the water, you can barely make out the rock formation that we cliff jumped off of earlier that day.

This is a shot of Lovers Beach, on the right side of the picture. Then if you look at the beach, through to where you can see water on the other side, that was Divorce Beach. It looks calm now, but it wasn't earlier that day.

The colors were even more vibrant that he picture shows, but on the right side of the picture, where the rock dips into a U-shape, that is still Lover's Beach, we are just far enough past it now that you can see the Rhino formation on the left side. We wanted to try and go there, but we never had time.

So long Cabo! Thanks for all the great memories!

After the above picture was taken, the boys went and played mini-golf (shocker) so we decided to hang out on the least windy deck.......but the day finally caught up to us and we were out!

That concludes our first day in port and it didn't disappoint!
