Puerto Rico part 1

So, we are on vacation with Thomas's brother Johnny and his wife. They got the cheap airfare and we got the cheap hotel, so together it was just too good of a deal to pass up. These are a few of the highlights of the trip so far (we are about halfway through).

Since the day we arrived it has been raining constantly. But is is warm rain, so I guess it isn't as bad as it could be :)

This was a picture i took from a moving car of one of the many colorful houses :)

This is us today (Saturday and we got here wednesday) with the first glimpse of sun we have seen so far. Don't worry it didn't last long :) We are at one of the forts that used to protect the island.

This is Thomas's first coconut. The milk wasn't as tasty as I thought it would be, but he seemed to enjoy it. :)

This was taken the first night we got here, we went swimming that evening and the waves were huge!!!! I guess Thomas was challenging the wave to take him on. If i remember correctly, the wave won. Trisha and I got taken out several times by the waves but it was worth it!

This was the second day at a differnent beach that had coral reef as the sea floor so we stayed close to shore, but we found these cool trees growing out of the water. There were so many crabs and fish in them it was awesome!
On the third day of rain, we decided to visit the rain forest (definitely appropriate name). Thomas and Johnny had already crossed this raging river to get where they are and they are trying to decide whether to jump in or not......... they didn't (smart boys, but read about the last few pictures and you will find otherwise)

These are the roots of a tree that you can't see in the picture, but we thought it was a cool shot. Obviously we are really swinging on the vines, Thomas and I are even sharing one! ha ha

This is us at the bottem of the water fall. No, we haven't gotten in any water yet, yes we are soaked, no the poncho didn't keep me or Trisha dry, but yes it was well worth it!

This is a picture of a cool cove we hiked to today... and then it got eventful. Thomas and Johnny and Trisha had all hiked out as far as they could without reaching the part that was being pounded by water... or so they thought. They watched for a few minutes to see if any waves were reaching where they wanted to go, but none were coming so Thomas and Johnny ventured out a bit further. All of a sudden a wave comes up about waist deep and knocks them unsteady and then almost immediately another, bigger wave came up and swept them off their feet and started dragging them back into the ocean. The bad part, as you can see, was the this was coral reef rock and they got pretty banged and scraped up. Johnny was able to grab onto some edges and hold on until the wave left, but Thomas got knocked to his back and almost went off the edge into the ocean. Luckily he grabbed something and held on until he could stand up again, and they both ran for higher ground. We are very grateful tonight that they are both alive and that scrapes are the extent of their injuries. As dangerous as it was, the cove was one of the coolest parts of the trip.
Here they are where they thought they were safe, chasing crabs.

Here are the after effects of the wave. It looks worse that it really is cause the blood hasn't been washed away yet, but it is still pretty bad.

Thomas has more injuries, but they are on his thigh/hip and butt, pictures I don't think i should post. Oh and his knees and toes, but they aren't as cool looking :) And to think, we still have 3 more days here........ we will see what happens!
